Setting:
Our specially designed Short Courses programme enables overseas children to sample the very best of British education with a strong international perspective at a traditional school in a fully English speaking environment where the students have the opportunity to start, or improve, or refine their English skills.
The school benefits from beautiful historic buildings, extensive grounds and playing fields, a heated swimming pool, indoor sports hall, adventure playground and tennis courts, all located in the safe, Edwardian seaside town.
The Short Courses offer overseas children a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to learn English in a safe, caring, British boarding school environment. Many children form lifelong friendships during these short courses with some children returning year after year to our beautiful spot in Devon.
Academic programmes:
The courses are designed for students in Years 5 – 8 (DOB 1/9/01-31/8/99). The students integrate with existing lessons appropriate for their age which will be in English however, additional tuition for English as an Additional Language (EAL) will be arranged for students during the periods in which first language speakers are studying English as a subject. During these lessons the short “course students” will join our full time EAL students in their programmes - many of whom are studying for an IALTS examination at the end of the year. The “short course” students’ join our boarding pupils for after school activities and weekend outings.
No places available in Year 6 in Term 3 (D.O.B: 1/9/00 – 31/8/01)
Pastoral Care:
The students are very well looked after by our House staff who are on hand to provide them with any help or support. We will keep you updated at all times during their stay and you may contact the Housemaster/Matron to enquire on their well being through email or telephone calls after 5.00pm (local time). During the week there will be opportunities for the students to use our computers to email families and friends.
The students will be in rooms varying in size from single rooms to large dormitories of 10 students. The boarding areas for boys and girls are separated and each wing has its own coded security entry system.
There is a matron on hand 24 hours a day and the students can be taken to the local doctors in the case of further need.
