St John’s School, Sidmouth is an independent day and boarding school in Devon for boys and girls aged 2 -18. The school is located on a hill overlooking the sea in the beautiful Regency town of Sidmouth and benefits from excellent facilities including beautiful historic buildings, extensive grounds and playing fields, indoor sports hall, adventure playground and tennis courts.
With its warm, happy atmosphere, St John’s prides itself on providing a caring and safe environment for all its students. Most importantly, it is large enough to offer a broad study programme yet small enough to retain a special family feel that is valued by our students, parents and staff alike.
Throughout their school life at St John’s, our students are encouraged to be inquirers. For us it’s not about learning by rote, it’s about teaching our students how to find things out for themselves, encouraging them, stimulating them, supporting them and then letting them fly. It’s an approach that starts at the very beginning of their school journey and continues long after they leave us.
St John’s Nursery caters for children from 2- 4 years old and is open 8.00 – 17.00 in term time. Nursery is based in secure, separate buildings within the grounds of St John’s School. Safe outdoor play area and benefits from the wider school facilities including dining hall and indoor/outdoor swimming pool.
St John’s is one of only 14 schools in the UK and the only school in the South West of England authorised to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP focuses on the development of the child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.
The Senior School offers an integrated programme based on the National Curriculum, combined with a series of individual and theme-based projects to investigate and extend all topics throughout the school year, culminating in Cambridge International IGCSEs at the end of Year 11.
St John’s offers a wide range of flexible study options for international students, ranging from Short Courses, through to full inclusion in mainstream school. Most importantly, we aim to help students realise their potential, whether they are staying with us for one term or for the whole of their school life.
