About Nursery
Our Nursery caters for children from 2- 4 years old and is open between 8.00 and 17.00 ALL YEAR ROUND. Nursery is based in secure, separate buildings within the grounds of St John’s School with our own safe outdoor play area.
As part of the school, we are lucky enough to be able to enjoy all the school facilities including the sports hall, the extensive playing fields, dining hall, forest school area, and our new indoor/outdoor swimming pool. Older children from the school often help within Nursery and this contributes to a smooth transition for those moving through to ‘big school’ in Reception at St John’s.
As well as a package of comprehensive care throughout the day, children receive a mid-morning snack, a healthy lunch (taken in the main school dining room) and a light tea in the afternoon. There is a small charge for lunch in the Nursery or you can bring a packed lunch for your child.
St John´s Nursery is subject to Independent School Inspections on a regular basis.
How we learn
Our Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) alongside the Primary Years Programme (PYP) which allows us to create a learning environment that encourages our children to inquire, explore, question, investigate, create, imagine and most importantly have fun!
Our children are encouraged to learn through play and exploration, using our main activity room, our craft and messy play areas, our outside area and the wider school grounds wherever possible.

Activities
We are also lucky enough to have Spanish, Music, PE and Swimming every week too. We plan activities using solely our children’s interests and skills meaning that we really get to know our children and allow them to be in control of their learning.
This allows the children to develop as individuals and encourage positive relationships with both their peers and our Early Years team. We also work closely with the Reception class which means a smoother transition when it is time for ‘big school.’
Nursery Life
We always encourage parents to come into Nursery, to see our facilities and discuss the needs of their children. All children are welcome to come for a ‘Taster Day’ before joining Nursery and this can take place at any point during the year. We welcome the opportunity to show parents and children what Nursery Life is really like.
If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact nursery.stjohns@iesmail.com or call 01395 513984 and ask to speak to Nursery.
